Central Window, Apse of Regensburg Cathedral: Detail, St. Nicholas

After 1313
Stained glass
Regensburg, Germany

St. Nicholas is identified by the inscription at shoulder level. A book perches on his left hand. The three gold circles on its cover may refer to Nicholas's gift to the destitute father. His mitre is inconsistent with the story of his intemperate outburst at the Council of Nicea.
